Gustavus A. Thompson lodge U.D of San Diego California was instituted August 28, 1953 by the late Past Master Joseph M. Tucker as Worshipful Master; Archie L. Haynes as Senior Warden, and Augustus Holdclaw as Junior Warden.

Gustavus A. Thompson Lodge No. 79 F. & A.M. of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of California Incorporated was constituted September 10, 1954, under the direction of the late Most Worshipful Grand Master, Starling James Hopkins and his very fine staff of Grand Lodge Officers.
